At Waypoint Strategies, we use the definition of the International Coaching Federation (ICF): coaching is “partnering with clients in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximize their personal and professional potential”. It is a voluntary relationship and is driven by the goals of the client. The coach provides a structure in which the client explores how they can be successful. The coach serves as a sounding board and accountability partner Waypoint designs the coaching engagement around the specific needs of the individual client or client team. Coaching is most successful when coach and client are equally engaged in the process. Getting to know the client and establishing trust is essential. The tool most often used by the coach is called the “intentional conversation”.
